What is community activism?

From a CAN perspective it means we get involved. As issues arise affecting our families, neighborhood, environment and world we actively work to find and fight for solutions. We continue to seek ways to raise awareness and build coalitions and collaborate with others on common areas of opportunity. We work hard to bring together the voices of the people so the community can be heard and their collective needs acted upon. We seek to leverage community activism to influence policy, process and outcomes that matter and are important to the community. We believe in the concept that "it takes a village". We see ourselves as the village. We also believe that "the part is not more important than the whole" and that we are all connected.

We reach out to our entire community of the world. We build relationships with others to insure we remain diverse and focused on people. We are also resourceful and believe in supporting causes and organizations that are working in areas related to our interests. To do this we often lift up or promote events hosted by others that are related to our interests
